Lord VishnuEvening worship/Universal aarti

Om Jai Jagdish Hare

The most universally sung aarti in Hindu households, offered to Lord Vishnu as the preserver of the universe.

About Om Jai Jagdish Hare

Om Jai Jagdish Hare is the most widely recited aarti in Hindu tradition, sung every evening in homes and temples across India. Composed by Shradha Ram Phillauri in the 19th century, it is a hymn of surrender and devotion to Lord Vishnu, the preserver and protector of all creation.

The aarti addresses the Lord by many epithets — Jagdish (Lord of the Universe), the remover of sorrows and fulfiller of desires. It appeals to His grace to cleanse the devotee's mind, protect the devotee's honor, and guide them across the ocean of worldly existence.

Singing this aarti at dusk is considered especially auspicious. It is the quintessential universal aarti that transcends sectarian divisions, sung equally by Vaishnavas, Shaivas, and Shaktas at the close of any worship ceremony.
